MoveDetroit is led by President & CEO Hilary Doe, alongside a 50+ member coalition including leaders from every sector and corner of the city. Established in March 2026, MoveDetroit is a historic, city-wide effort to grow Detroit’s population, build shared prosperity, and invest in thriving communities to create even brighter futures for all Detroiters – current and future. Through data-backed, community-led programs, policies, and storytelling, this effort supports current residents choosing to stay, former residents returning home, and welcomes others to join us. 

Prior to leading MoveDetroit, Hilary was appointed by Governor Whitmer to serve as Michigan’s – and the nation’s – first Chief Growth Officer, establishing the Michigan Growth Office and pioneering innovative strategies to spark economic and population growth that have delivered real results. 

In a few short years, she and her team achieved remarkable results including growth in 66% of Michigan counties, positive domestic net migration for the first time since the 90s, and delivered first-in-the-nation programs offering entrepreneurs, recent grads, and Michigan families downpayment and housing support. In a recent study, growth in Michigan’s young adult population is now accelerating 5th fastest in the nation.

As a proven builder of companies and organizations, she has dedicated her career to facilitating powerful citizen engagement–from think tanks to startups to government–and driving bold action towards tackling the biggest challenges of our time.
