Brian Thompson: Senior Journeyman Banknote and Product Designer

Brian Thompson: Senior Journeyman Banknote and Product Designer

Brian A. Thompson, the first African-American to design a US banknote in history, has been employed as a Senior Journeyman Banknote Designer for 31 years. A graduate of the University of the District of Columbia with an Associate Degree in Advertising Design, Brian received an Outstanding Alumni Award in 2001. In 2013, he achieved “celebrity” status as the designer of the new one-hundred dollar banknote. Brian’s historic milestone was featured in articles in the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Esquire Magazine, Coin World, The Tom Joyner Morning Show and was inducted into the Prince George’s County Hall of Fame receiving the Design Trailblazer Award in 2022.

More Details

Brian is also a part of the redesign team in refreshing the new US Passport. He was given the task in redesign four pages in the passport and solely responsible for designing the new data page within the new US Passport. As an inspired leader, Brian is now the Senior Pastor of his own Missional Ministry that he shares with his wife Pamela called Easel Outreach. He has yet another sacred passion that finds him on college campuses and schools throughout the DC Metro area as a guest lecturer on Asperger’s Syndrome (Autism) and mental health advocacy.

Brian‘s wealth of knowledge and experience is opening doors for many who would not otherwise have access to opportunities for healing and well-being. Brian’s message gives hope to the voiceless. In 2021 A mural in honor of Brian’s historical achievements was painted. The mural is located at: 126 W 39th Street Los Angeles, California 90037,
